“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”

–The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Free & Equal is a straps number that pays homage to an ideal world, one where power is checked and balanced, and where everyone is treated fairly and humanely, while also shining a light on the injustice that pervades our current world. The act acknowledges the ideals as well as the struggles of both the past and present, guided by excerpts from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that means as much now as it did when it was written 70 years ago. It recognizes the plight of those searching for safety, security, and a sense of belonging, both physically and mentally, and explores the ideas of roots, home, and the extreme privilege that is the freedom of choice.
